The first major western disturbance of the winter season is set to affect north India from December 31, interacting with an active easterly wave in south peninsular India. These two systems, coupled together initially, will lead to partly cloudy skies on December 31 and January 1 in Pune and interior Maharashtra, causing an increase in minimum temperature. After the passage of the disturbance, cool northerly winds will engulf entire north and central India, extending to Maharashtra, including Pune, on January 3 and 4. This may result in a significant drop in day and night temperatures, with Pune likely to reach a low of 9°C. As a result, till January 2, a fall in day temperature is expected and rise in night temperature is likely. After that period, we may see clearer skies following the passage of the disturbance.
