Nurses' day-long strike hits services at Sassoon hospital

The nurses at Sassoon General Hospital joined a state-wide strike in support of the old pension scheme and other issues, affecting essential healthcare and nursing services. Only 30% of the nursing staff worked on Thursday, resulting in a decrease in the number of surgeries performed. The hospital had to bring in additional nurses to take care of critically injured patients from a recent fire incident. Although patient care was claimed to be unaffected, patients from neighboring districts faced difficulties. The strike was called off after the government agreed to form a committee for the implementation of the old pension scheme.
