Two cops held for negligence in drug kingpin escape case

Two policemen in Pune have been arrested for negligence after drug kingpin Lalit Patil escaped from the prisoner's ward of Sassoon General Hospital. The police officers were responsible for escorting Patil to another unit for a medical test when he escaped. Patil had been arrested in October 2020 in a drug haul case and was being held in Yerawada central prison before being transferred to the hospital. The two policemen have been charged under section 223 of the Indian Penal Code. This brings the total number of accused in the case to eight.
