Neurological issues on the rise among dengue patients: Docs

Doctors in Pune have reported a significant increase in dengue cases, particularly among children under one year old. These young children are showing a higher likelihood of developing shock due to an early onset of the 'leaky phase' of dengue. Some patients are also presenting with critical conditions such as heart involvement, low blood pressure, dengue encephalopathy, and co-infections with hepatitis A. Doctors are concerned about the emergence of dengue encephalopathy, a rare but severe complication that affects the central nervous system. The increase in cases may be associated with post-Covid effects and changes in the virus's virulence.
