Winter haze looms over Pune as pollution levels increase

The air quality in Pune and Mumbai has deteriorated in recent weeks, with an increase in PM2.5 concentrations. PM2.5 is fine particulate matter that can have adverse effects on respiratory health. The pollutant has exceeded permissible levels in both cities. This rise in pollution has led to an increase in doctor visits, particularly among those with pre-existing respiratory conditions. Construction activity and a drop in night temperatures are contributing factors to the elevated pollution levels. Experts are urging people to avoid firecrackers during Diwali to prevent further pollution.
