Pune: Military constable loses Rs 5 lakh to loan fraud

A military police constable in Pune was scammed out of Rs 5.2 lakh in a loan fraud. The constable received a call from someone claiming to be a customer care representative of a telecom-service provider, who asked him to verify his bank-linked SIM card. After several failed attempts to recharge, the caller asked the constable to download an assist app, which gave the scammer remote access to his phone. The scammer then obtained a loan of Rs 8 lakh in the constable's name, transferring Rs 5 lakh to another account before the scam was discovered.
