PMC ‘breaks promise’, fells trees along Ganeshkhind Road

Citizens in Pune have accused the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) of cutting trees along the Ganeshkhind stretch, despite promising to stop as part of a road widening project. A video shared by citizens showed PMC contractors removing branches and chopping down trees. The PMC had pledged to conduct a site survey of all 192 trees and not cut any until the survey was completed, but citizens claim that trees were felled on September 29. The PMC denies this and states that they are focusing on transplanting trees. A meeting between the PMC and citizens has been scheduled for October 3.
