Nashik onion traders to go on strike from today

Over 500 traders in Nashik district have declared an indefinite strike starting from Wednesday. They will not participate in onion auctions at the mandis, which may affect the supply of onions across the country. The traders claim that two central government agencies are buying onions from Nashik farmers at lower prices than the traders charge their bulk buyers, creating a price difference of Rs 500-700 per quintal. The traders are demanding that the central agencies sell the buffer stock in retail markets and reduce the market fees and export duty on onions.
