Mumbai-Pune Expressway 'missing link' project: Tunnelling was a journey down millennia of geological history

The excavation of nearly 11km of tunnels on either side of Tiger Valley, reaching a depth of 200 metres in the Lonavala Hills, provided a unique opportunity to delve into India's geological history. "It was a journey back in time. Going deeper and deeper under the hills while making the tunnels was like time travel," said Noel P Mundo, team leader, Geodata. From the Philippines, he is one of the project's many foreign consultants.
