Maha clears 1.92L Covid ex gratia applications

The state government has approved ex gratia payment of Rs50,000 each for 1.92 lakh applications received from the kin of Covid victims till July end, state disaster management officials said, reports Nisha Nambiar. However, the official Covid death toll in the state as per the ICMR portal is 1.48 lakh till July 28 since the outbreak of the pandemic. So far, the state has paid Rs961cr towards Covid ex gratia. State health and relief and rehabilitation department officials said the number of applications approved was higher than the official death toll as the SC had widened the ambit of compensation for Covid deaths in October last year.
